Stags Defeat #6 Williams 8-1

CMS Men's Tennis took an important step forward in it's quest to be the best team in Div III by defeating sixth ranked Williams College by an 8-1 score on Saturday. The Stags continued their consistent doubles play by sweeping all three positions to get out to an early 3-0 lead. Number one pair Guillaume Schils (SO - Shaker Heights, OH) and Lawrence Wang (SO - Orange, CA) led CMS with an 8-3 win that reminded many of their 2006 form. In the singles, CMS won first sets on four of the six courts, with only Ben Hough (JR - Spokane, WA) and Eric Chow (SR - Sunnyvale, CA) finding themselves behind. Freshman Mikey Lim (FR - Honolulu, HI) and senior Jack DePaolo (Asheville, NC) were the first two Stags to win in straight sets to clinch the dual match win. Senior co-captain William Ellison (Shaker Heights, OH) then won his third straight two-set match to put CMS up 6-0. Meanwhile, Chow rallied from a set down to earn a three-set victory, and Hough battled back from a set and a break down twice, and then down two breaks in the third, before prevailing 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(3). The Stags victory moves their overall record to 17-3. Next weekend CMS travels to northern California to play NAIA opponent Fresno Pacific University on Friday, Division I UC Davis on Saturday, and Division III's top team UC Santa Cruz on Sunday.
