Stags Open NCAAs with 6-0 Win Over PLU; Next Up Santa Cruz

CMS Men's Tennis opened up NCAA Team Championship play with a convincing 6-0 victory over #3 seed Pacific Lutheran on Saturday. The Stags swept the doubles without losing serve in any of the the three matches, highlighted by sophomores Guillaume Schils (Shaker Heights, OH) and Lawrence Wang (Orange, CA) defeating Ojai champs David Miller and Justin Larimore 8-5 at the #1 position. In singles, Schils was the first Stag to get a win, with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #5. Senior co-captain William Ellison (Shaker Heights, OH) then clinched the team victory for the Stags with a 6-2, 6-3 win at #2. Wang completed his match at #1 singles, defeating Miller in straight sets before the other matches were abandoned. The Stags victory improves their record to 26-6, giving this year's team the highest win total in program history. The Stags play UC Santa Cruz at 12 noon on Sunday for a berth in the final eight in St. Louis beginning May 15. Check all the results of the NCAA Team Championship round of 16.
