Stags Fall to CLU in SCIAC Semis

The CMS Stags Tennis Team lost for the second time in two weeks to Cal Lutheran by a score of 4-3, today's match in the semifinals of the SCIAC tournament at Whittier College. After defeating Caltech in the opening round by a 4-0 score, the Stags looked to avenge a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Cal Lutheran only 13 days ago. With a win over the Kingsman, it was almost certain that the Stags would qualify for the NCAA tournament with a top five regional ranking. The Stags got off to a great start by dominating the doubles point with one-sided wins at all three positions. Unfortunately, the Stags couldn't capitalize on their momentum, and dropped each of the first three singles matches to take the court. Sophomore Evan Feldhausen, playing the #4 singles position, and Freshman Ben Hough, playing #6 singles, got the Stags even with straight set wins, before the Kingsman clinched the match at #5 singles. The Stags close out their dual match play for the season Saturday at 9:00 AM in the 3rd / 4th playoff against Occidental. Following the final matches, the All-SCIAC, Player of the Year, and Team Sportsmanship awards will be presented. With today's results, the Stags move to 14-13 overall and 6-3 in conference.
