Applebaum, Gaylord Win SCIAC Weekly Awards for CMS Men's Swim and Dive

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Frank Applebaum was named the SCIAC Swimmer of the Week, and Cyrus Gaylord earned the Diver of the Week for events through Sunday, Nov. 13, the league office announced today.

Applebaum won both butterfly events and contributed to a medley relay win as the Stags swept a tri-meet with Caltech and Chapman. Applebaum, the defending national champion in the 200 fly, won by almost a full second in 1:50.37 in his first meet defending his title against Division III competition, and then came from behind over the final 25 yards to win the 100 fly in 50.82.

Gaylord had a dominant performance in the three-meter dive, recoding 369.30 points, a victory margin of 66. He was also third in the one-meter dive in a close three-way battle with 319.15 points, behind Reid Omilian of Chapman (337.60) and teammate Jack Griffith (322.60).

Griffith previously won the SCIAC Diver of the Week after a meet with UC San Diego, and as a combined program, CMS has already had five different Divers of the Week, with Izzy Doud, Makenna Parkinson and Emma Ng Pack each winning once for the Athenas.

CMS will be back in action on Dec. 2-3 when it competes at Pomona-Pitzer in the annual two-day meet between the neighboring programs.
