Gaylord Becomes Second CMS Men's Diver to Earn All-SCIAC Honors

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Cyrus Gaylord earned a third-place finish in the three-meter dive to earn All-SCIAC honors on the second day of the SCIAC Diving Championships at Cal Lutheran on Sunday afternoon.

Gaylord joins teammate Jack Griffith on the list of Stags to earn spots on the All-SCIAC teams this weekend, after Griffith came in third place yesterday in the one-meter. Gaylord finished fourth yesterday in the one-meter, and the teammates flip-flopped positions today in the three-meter, with Griffith coming in just behind Gaylord in fourth.

Gaylord's 484.80 points was behind only Benjamin Willett of Pomona-Pitzer (521.30) and Samuel Solomon of Caltech (498.15). Griffith finished with 441.30 points to edge out Liam Gilbert of Pomona-Pitzer for fourth place.

The Stags had five of the nine divers in the finals as they earned a high point total to take a lead into the swimming portion of the competition this coming week. Ben Smith was sixth in the three-meter, while Abai Houser was seventh and Luke Lenhart eighth.

Swimming will get underway at La Mirada on Wednesday evening, with the four-day competition wrapping up on Saturday night. The Stags will be trying to defend their 2020 title, which they won by a close 14 points over Pomona-Pitzer. The two teams met in a dual back in December, which the Stags won convincingly, but the Sagehens come into the weekend with the higher national ranking at No. 9, while CMS is four spots behind at No. 13.
