CMS Men's Swimming and Diving Has Final Tuneup Before SCIAC Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Lucas Lang, Nick Tekieli and Cyrus Gaylord had individual wins, as the CMS men's swimming and diving team concluded the regular season with a loose tune-up in a non-scoring meet at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.

The event serves as the final preparation before the SCIAC Championships for the two cross-street rivals. In addition to no team scores being kept, the invitational also features swimmers competing in events outside of their specialties, as well as non-traditional events such as co-ed relays. 

Lang, who has been dominant in the distance events all season, did swim in his usual 500-yard freestyle, taking first place in 4:47.72 for one of the CMS individual wins. Tekieli also earned a win in the 200 back, and Gaylord earned a win in the one-meter dive. 

CMS heads into the SCIAC Championships over the next two weeks as the favorite to win the title, after a dominant effort in a win over Pomona-Pitzer in a two-day dual back in December. Gaylord and the Stag divers will be in action next weekend at the SCIAC Diving Championships at Cal Lutheran on Saturday and Sunday, before the swimmers head to La Mirada for a four-day championship from Feb. 16-19.

The Stags who are currently ranked No. 9 in the nation, will be looking to defend their 2020 title, which they won by just 14 points over Pomona-Pitzer in a meet that came right down to the final relay.
