Kendall Hollimon Returns to Axelrood Pool with Sweep of Westminster
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior All-American Kendall Hollimon, who was studying abroad in the fall, returned to his first meet at Axelrood Pool of the 2018-19 season and swept both the one-meter and three-meter events in a dual diving meet with Westminster on Sunday evening.
Hollimon, who finished fourth at the NCAA Division III Championships last year in the three-meter and seventh in the one-meter, had a head-to-head battle with Connor May of Westminster, who was fifth in the three-meter and 14th in the one-meter at the NCAA Championships a year ago. The two All-Americans had a close battle in the three-meter on Sunday, with Hollimon prevailing 276.05 to 267.55 over the six dives, holding off a late comeback effort from May to secure the victory on his final dive.
Patrick Holton of Westminster also made it a tight three-diver battle with a 264.4, finishing just over 11 points behind Hollimon and just over three behind his teammate.
Hollimon, who had his first meet of the year on Saturday at Division I Cal Baptist, earned a wider margin of victory in the one-meter, starting out with two nines in his very first dive of the day, and heading on to a 335.2 to 294.2 win over May. Senior Scott Montague picked up a pair of fourth-place finishes for the Stags, earning a 196.9 in the three-meter and a 189.55 in the one-meter.
CMS will be back in action this Saturday, when it returns to SCIAC competition with a road meet against Whittier, beginning at 10 a.m.
