CMS Men's Soccer Drops Tough 1-0 Decision at Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team fell behind 1-0 at the half, and played up a man for most of the second, but could not find the equalizer as it fell to Chapman in a SCIAC contest on Saturday afternoon at Chapman Stadium.

The loss was the first of the season for CMS and drops them to 2-1-2 on the year, including 0-1-1 in conference play, while Chapman moves to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.

The Panthers score was credited as an own goal in the 43rd minute off of a corner kick, as a Chapman header took a deflection off a CMS defender and ricocheted into the net. The red card for the Panthers came in the 52nd when Hayden Rouse was tagged with his second yellow.

John Laidlaw had the best chance to tie for the Stags, but he hit the crossbar in the 64th minute, the second time he has hit the woodwork this season. Rafael Otero had an early shot in the second half saved over the line for a corner kick, and Jacoby Lockman had the final chance for CMS in the 87th minute but missed wide left.

Kevin Box had six saves for the Stags, which were outshot 12-10, with nine of the Chapman shots coming in the first half.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday night when it travels to Redlands for a 7 p.m. contest.
