CMS Men's Soccer Earns Dominant 3-0 Road Win over Willamette

SALEM, Ore. - Rafael Otero scored the game-winner on a penalty kick midway through the first half and Eric Sanchez and Jake Allmon added goals in the second half as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team picked up its second straight win to start the season, defeating Willamette 3-0 on Friday evening.

With the win, CMS improves to 2-0 after defeating UC Santa Cruz 2-1 in its opening game last week, while Willamette slips to 0-3 with the loss.

CMS got out on the front foot from the start, with four shots in the first 10 minutes, one of which hit the post (from Allmon). The pressure eventually resulted in a foul in the box, and Otero converted in the 20th minute to give the Stags the lead.

With 23:15 left in the game, Sanchez got on the back end of a pass from Allmon and converted to give the Stags an insurance. Last week, Sanchez scored with just 32 seconds left to break the 1-1 tie against UC Santa Cruz. Allmon that added a goal of his own when he converted with 11:47 left.

CMS controlled play throughout, outshooting the Bearcats 22-10, and finishing with a 10-3 advantage in shots on net, as Kevin Box did not need to make a save in 83 minutes, while Daniel Kotkosky was called on to make three in relief in the final seven minutes to preserve the clean sheet. Pierluca Carnovale had six saves for Willamette.

CMS will be back in action on Sunday when it completes its two-game road trip with a game against Pacific Lutheran, which will also be held at Willamette.
