CMS Men's Soccer Dominates Second Half in 3-0 Win over Whittier

WHITTIER, Calif. - Justin Blachman broke a 0-0 tie in the 52nd minute, and Nico Monsalve and Jake Allmon broke it open with goals 32 seconds apart in the 61st minute as the CMS men's soccer team took a 3-0 road win over Whittier on Wednesday evening.

With the win, CMS moves to 3-3-4 overall on the season and 3-1-1 in the SCIAC, while Whittier falls to 1-5-1 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

CMS had a 12-4 advantage in shots in the first half, but had to settle for a 0-0 tie as Teddy Nickerson had four saves for the Poets. In the second half, though, CMS was able to assert itself, with Blachman getting things started at the 51:48 mark off a pass from Allmon.

Less than nine minutes later, Monsalve struck for his second of the year to put CMS ahead 2-0 at the 60:26 mark. Whittier had almost no time to regroup before Allmon netted a goal at the 60:58 mark to stretch the lead to 3-0.

Daniel Kotkosky had four saves for the Stags, before giving way to Henry Otte for the final minutes as the two goalkeepers combined a shutout. Blachman caused the Poets all sorts of problems during the game, taking nine shots, to account for half the CMS total, one of which went in, one of which was saved by a defender off the line, and three of which were saved by Nickerson.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Caltech for an 11 a.m. contest.
