CMS Men's Soccer Wins Eighth Straight Shutting Out Caltech 6-0

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Justin Blachman and Rafael Otero scored two goals apiece, and Bryan Uribe and Eric Sanchez added goals of their own, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team captured a 6-0 win over the Caltech Beavers on Saturday night at Pritzlaff Field.

With the win, CMS picked up their eighth win in a row while improving to 8-1-1 and 6-0 in SCIAC play. Caltech fell to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the SCIAC on the season.

It was a group effort entirely for the Stags, who saw many players get in the scoring column while also playing stellar defense on the night. Kevin Box had two saves and a shutout, including one diving effort in the first half, and another in the second half where he tipped the ball over the crossbar with his outstretched hands. He improved his record to 1-1 this year with his first career shutout, although his loss came in a 1-0 overtime game against Westmont earlier in the season.

CMS outshot the Beavers 27-6, creating opportunities they ultimately were able to take advantage of over the course of the game.

Jake Allmon set up Blachman 29:39 into the first half as he was able to send a strike to the back of the net to give the Stags a 1-0 lead. Otero scored twice less than 10 minutes later, with his first being a one-time shot off a clearance by Caltech that got through the dive of the goalkeeper. The second came on a give and go with Blachman where he was able to chip in the ball from inside the six-yard box to capture a 3-0 advantage.

Sanchez scored when he volleyed in a crossing pass from Walsh Kern in the 41st minute to give CMS a 4-0 lead. Uribe and Blachman added  goals at the 77:11 and 78:56 mark of the night, respectively, to make the final score 6-0. Kern recorded his second assist while finding Blachman for the Stags sixth score.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday night looking to grab their ninth consecutive win when they travel to take on the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at 7:00 p.m.
