CMS Men's Soccer Jumps Back to No. 8 in New United Soccer Coaches Division III Poll

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team jumped 14 spots in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III poll, moving from No. 22 to No. 8 to match its highest ranking of the 2019 season.

CMS jumped up to No. 8 after picking up a win over top-10 Trinity in the early portion of its non-conference schedule on Sept. 10, then fell out of the rankings the following week. The Stags came back into the poll at No. 22 on Oct. 1, where it stayed last week, before vaulting back up to the top spot in the West Region and the No. 8 spot nationally this week.

CMS currently stands at 9-2-1 on the season and is riding an eight-game unbeaten streak since starting out 2-2. The Stags are 7-0-1 in that stretch, with the one tie coming 2-2 against Redlands on Oct. 2. Dating back to last year, CMS has compiled a 24-4-2 record in its last 30 games, good for an .833 winning percentage, after finishing last season 15-2-1.

The Stags will look to defend their high ranking with a pair of home games this week, facing Chapman on Wednesday night in a 7 p.m. matchup and then meeting La Verne on Saturday at 7 p.m. CMS and Chapman met at Pritzlaff Field in last year's SCIAC semifinals, which ended in a 0-0 tie and saw the Panthers advance on penalty kicks before winning the finals two days later. The Stags and La Verne faced each other already once this season on Oct. 2 at La Verne, with CMS coming away with a 5-0 win.
