CMS Men's Golf Finishes 11th at Jekyll Island Invitational, Tan Ties for Fifth

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team finished tied for 11th out of 30 teams at the prestigious Jekyll Island Invitational this weekend, behind a fifth-place performance from first-year Jamison Tan.

The Stags had their best round on Friday, when they shot a 291 (+7) to place third in the field, before ending up tied with Kenyon, Southwestern and Sewanee at +40 after the three rounds. Oglethorpe won with a +18, followed by Carnegie Mellon at +23. Guilford at +24 and Rhodes at +25. 

Tan was tied for fifth out of 150 golfers in the field, shooting a 69 on his first round (-2) to tie him for third on the individual leaderboard after the first 18 holes, and followed up with a pair of 73s on his final two rounds, moving up three spots in the third round into a tie for third He had four birdies in his Friday round, and came through with a birdie on 18 on his final hole of the tournament to move up into a tie for fifth.

Adrian Chiu had the second-best score for the Stags with a +13 to tie for 61st, closing out with a birdie and a par on the 17th and 18th on Sunday. Joshua Kwon shot an even-par 71 on Friday, including birdies on the first hole and the 18th.

CMS will be back in action this weekend for the second SCIAC regular season tournament, which will be played at Mountain Meadows in Pomona.
