CMS Men's Golf Alumnus John Fischer Named to Southern California Golf Association Board of Directors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - John Fischer, who earned All-America honors as a member of the CMS Men's Golf team in 2002, was selected to join the Board of Directors of the Southern California Golf Association, the organization announced this week.

An alumnus of Claremont McKenna College, where he graduated in 2002, Fischer competed on the golf team for four years. He was twice named captain and earned honorable mention All-American honors during his senior year. He was an All-SCIAC selection all four years, earning second-team honors as a freshman and then capturing first-team honors for three straight seasons. He was voted the team MVP as both a junior and senior, and also earned accolades for his work in the classroom, capturing All-America Scholar honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Following his CMS career, Fischer continued to participate in amateur and club events around Southern California. He won The LACC Club Championship in 2011, had an active role in supporting the 2017 Walker Cup and currently serves on the Green Committee for the 2023 U.S. Open host site. Fischer has also organized and supported SCGA Junior activities at LACC over the past few years.

Fischer, a Redondo Beach resident and son of the late SCGA board member Bob Fischer, began his career in multifamily real estate at AIMCO, where he specialized in partnership transactions, acquisitions, and redevelopments. After holding similar positions at Highridge Costa Investors, LLC., TruAmerica Multifamily and Compass Acquisition Partners, Fischer is now the managing director at Standard Companies, where he leads a team that runs over 9,000 multifamily units across the country.

"We are very excited to have John join our leadership team," said SCGA Executive Director Kevin Heaney. "His strong background in golf and previous engagement with the association coupled with his vast knowledge and skills will make him a dynamic addition to the SCGA Board."

Fischer will lend his expertise to a number of SCGA committees, including Competitions & Golf Operations, Governmental Affairs and SCGA Junior. He will begin his board orientation immediately, which will include identifying a current board member to serve as Fischer's mentor.

"I am thrilled with the opportunity to serve on the SCGA Board," said Fischer. "I have the highest regard for the SCGA, its board and the staff. I am excited to contribute."
