Josh Angle Selected to D3hoops Preseason All-America Second Team

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Josh Angle of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team earned a spot on the Preseason All-America second team from D3hoops.com, the website announced this week.

Angle earned third-team All-America honors from D3hoops.com at the conclusion of last season, and returned for his fifth year as he pursues a master's degree from Claremont Graduate University. He averaged 21.5 points per game last year, including a career-high 37 in a season-opening win over No. 2 Mary-Hardin Baylor. He also shot 45 percent from three-point territory, ranking in the top 20 in the nation in scoring, threes per game and three-point percentage.

Angle's efforts led CMS to a 21-5 record and a national ranking for most of the 2022-23 season. The Stags ran into some injury problems late in the year, with three of their top six scorers (Brian Kenyon, Matt Meredith, Justin Pratt) essentially being lost for the year (Meredith did return for the final two games, but played only five minutes in the SCIAC Semifinals in a loss to Redlands). The Stags, who have a veteran team with four graduate students on the roster this year, earned a preseason No. 23 ranking from D3hoops.com last week, as well as being picked to win the SCIAC.

In addition to his accomplishments on the court, Angle was named the Division III Men's Basketball Academic All-American of the Year by the College Sports Communicators, after graduating from Claremont McKenna's Robert Day School with over a 3.9 GPA while earning his bachelor's in economics and his master's in finance in four years.

CMS will open its 2023-24 season on Saturday, Nov. 11, when it hosts UC Santa Cruz for a 1 p.m. contest.
