Rhett Carter Earns SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Rhett Carter of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sunday, Feb. 12, the league office announced today.

Carter helped control the paint as the Stags allowed just 52 points per game in its 2-0 road week, including only seven second-chance points combined in the two games. CMS held a 48-12 advantage in points in the paint in a dominant 87-54 win over Chapman on Wednesday, with Carter providing three blocks and eight defensive rebounds, helping the Stags hold the Panthers to only four second-chance points.

Against Occidental on Saturday, Carter had eight more defensive rebounds in a 63-50 win. The Stags allowed only six offensive rebounds and three second-chance points, while improving to 20-3 on the season.

Carter's award marks the fifth time this season that the Stags have had the Defensive Player of the Week, with the first four all going to Brian Kenyon. Josh Angle has also twice been named the Offensive Player of the Week and to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday for a key home game against Redlands, when the Stags can clinch a home SCIAC Semifinal game with a win. It will also be Senior Day for the seven seniors on the squad, including Carter.
