Brian Kenyon Wins Third Straight SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - For the third week in a row, Brian Kenyon of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award, the league office announced today.

Kenyon earned it this week after setting a new career high with six steals as CMS rolled to a non-conference win over Bethesda by a 96-54 final. He passed his previous career-high of four steals with five in the first half alone, before finishing with six points, seven rebounds, seven assists, six steals and no turnovers.

In addition to his individual numbers, Kenyon also continued in his role as a defensive stopper, holding Bethesda leading scorer Amar Ross (17 ppg) to just seven points on 2-9 shooting. Earlier this season, he held Brenden Patrick of Lewis & Clark (24 ppg) to just four points, and also held first-team All-American Josiah Johnson of Mary Hardin-Baylor (22 ppg) to just 3-10 shooting, including 0-4 in the first half as CMS built a 20-point lead at intermission on its way to an 81-70 win.

Kenyon won the award the last two weeks after holding his two primary defensive assignments to a combined 3-17 shooting as CMS won both games at the David Wells Classic on Nov. 26-27. He then held Josh Roggin of Chapman to just 10 points on 4-11 shooting, including no points in the second half, as the Stags won their conference opener.

CMS will be back in action on Friday night when it faces Pacific (Ore.) for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
