Brian Kenyon Repeats as SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week for CMS Men's Basketball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Brian Kenyon of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for games through Sunday, Dec. 4, the league office announced today.

It marks the second Defensive Player of the Week honor in a row for Kenyon, who also captured it last Monday after leading CMS to a pair of wins at the David Wells Classic. This week, he helped the Stags open SCIAC play at 2-0 with two lopsided wins, taking down Chapman 93-71 and Occidental 78-41.

Kenyon continued his season-long role as a defensive stopper, holding his assignments in check. In a matchup with Jack Roggin of Chapman, who was the reigning SCIAC Offensive Player fo the Week and was averaging over 18 points per game, Kenyon held him to 10 points on 4-11 shooting, with his last points coming on a breakaway layup with four minutes left in the half to put Chapman ahead 28-26, before CMS pulled away for a 22-point win.

Against Occidental, he held Sydney Shipp to five points (on only four shot attempts) and five turnovers, with both of Shipp's baskets coming while Kenyon was out of the game, as CMS held the Tigers to only 41 points. Earlier this season, Kenyon held All-American Josiah Johnson of No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor to 3-10 shooting (0-4 in the first half as CMS built a 20-point lead) and Brenden Patrick of Lewis & Clark, who is averaging 24.7 points per game this season, to only four points on 2-6 shooting.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Bethesda for a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
