CMS Men's Basketball Breaks 100 in Lopsided Win over California Miramar

CLAREMONT, Calif. - TJ Askew had 23 points and Luke Webb added a career-high 13 as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team defeated California Miramar 107-67 on Friday evening at Roberts Pavilion.

Josh Angle and Rhett Carter each added 15 points for the Stags, who won their fourth straight contest since falling to Whitworth at the David Wells Classic. Brian Kenyon added 10 assists for a CMS team that recorded 36 assists as a team on 44 baskets, and had only eight turnovers on the night. 

California Miramar did hang close for most of the first half, but Lucas MacEachern hit a pair of three-pointers in the final minute to cap an 8-0 run and stretch the lead up to 50-38 at the break. 

The Fighting Falcons were still within 72-59 at the midway point of the second half, before CMS put it into overdrive. Sam Johnson's putback started a 9-0 run to push the lead to 81-59, and the Stags closed out the game on an 18-0 run, with two Jordan Hunt foul shots pushing CMS to the 100-point mark, before the game was capped off by a dunk from Connor Printz and a three-pointer from Alec Sinek to make the final margin 40 points. 

CMS shot 44-81 as a team on the day, good for 54.3 percent, and held a 51-25 rebounding edge. Angle led CMS with 10 rebounds, part of a stat line that saw him accrue 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Matt Meredith also had a strong all-around line with seven points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Askew added four assists and three blocks to his game-high 23 points. 

The Stags will be back in action on Sunday when it faces a Division III regional opponent as UC Santa Cruz visits for a 4 p.m. contest.
