Segura Dobjanschi Named All-SCIAC First Team, President Chosen to Second Team

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior forward Nicolas Segura Dobjanschi earned a spot on the All-SCIAC first team, and junior guard Miles President was named to the second team in a vote of the SCIAC coaches, the league office announced today.

Segura Dobjanschi earned the All-SCIAC first team honor after stepping into the starting line-up this season and becoming the primary playmaker for the Stags from his forward position. He enters the postseason averaging 16.0 points per game, to go along with 7.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest.

After the graduation of four senior starters off of last year's team, including All-American guard Michael Scarlett, Segura Dobjanschi has regularly had the ball in his hands in late shot clock situations this year to create for himself or teammates. He has scored in double figures in 22 of 25 games, with the only exceptions coming in lopsided wins when he played less than 20 minutes (West Coast Baptist, Cal Lutheran, La Verne). He also had 25 points in a defeat to No. 2 Whitman, and a season-high 28 points in a home win over Whittier. 

President earned All-SCIAC second team distinction, after a strong season for the Stags on both ends of the floor. As the team's top perimeter defender, he has helped CMS lead the nation in scoring defense at 60.0 points per game, heading into the SCIAC Tournament. Offensively, he has averaged 11.2 points per game (including 12.1 in SCIAC games) to rank second on the team behind Segura Dobjanschi. His scoring totals this year have included a career-high 25 points at Whittier (breaking his previous high of 20 from the NCAA Tournament against Whitman a year ago), and 15 big points in an overtime win at Redlands. 

Second-seeded CMS gets postseason play underway tonight, when it takes on third-seeded Occidental for a 7 p.m. contest in the SCIAC Tournament semifinal round. The winner will move on to face the winner of the other semifinal between top-seeded Pomona-Pitzer and fourth-seeded Redlands tomorrow in the championship game.
