CMS Men's Basketball Balanced Attack Leads to 96-51 Win Over West Coast Baptist

CLAREMONT, Calif. - CMS Men's Basketball had 17 different Stags score points in its 96-51 win over West Coast Baptist on Friday night at Roberts Pavilion. The balanced attack marked the most players with points in a game this season. 

After briefly trailing 6-3 at the 18:18 mark of the first half, the Stags went on a 12-0 run to pull in front 15-6 with 11:19 left. CMS outscored West Coast Baptist 29-20 for the remainder of the half and held a 44-26 lead at the halfway mark. 

CMS opened the second half with a 27-8 run to the 9:52 mark of the second frame extending its lead to 71-34 at that point. 

The Stags made 22-of-30 from the free-throw line (73.3%) and scored 17 points off of 15 turnovers. On the flip side, the Eagles scored only four points off of 10 Stags turnovers. 

Jeremy Horn led all Stags with 10 points and George Walker finished with 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting and 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. Not a single Stag attempted more than five shots from the field and 11 players played double-digit minutes.

17 different Stags scored in a complete offensive performance marking their highest-scoring game of the season. Chukwueloka Oti chipped in with nine points, seven in the second half, Jack Peterson scored his nine points in the second stanza as well, and Miles President, Nicolas Segura Dobjanschi, and Mitchell Kirsch finished with eight points each. 

TJ Askew scored five points on 2-of-4 shooting in the second half, JD Levine tallied five points on one three-pointer, going 2-4 from the field. Ryan Kusch, Mark Sui posted four points each, Charles Meng sank one three-pointer for his only bucket off the bench, Alec Sinek made a three-ball late in the second half. Maxwell Kirsch, Kele Mkpado, Luke Webb, and Sam Johnson each finished with two points in a bench heavy Friday night victory. 

The only semblance of foul trouble for the Stags was for Peterson who picked up three personal fouls. Mkpado and President had two personal fouls apiece. Segura Dobjanschi grabbed seven rebounds to lead the team. 

The Stags basketball team used 56.1 percent shooting, out-rebounded the Eagles 40-29, and relied heavily on their production in the paint outscoring West Coast Baptist 40-24 in the low-block in the 96-51 win. CMS shot 47.6 percent from three point range, knocking down 10 of 21 shots from long-distance. The Stags dished out a season-high 24 assists contributing to the team effort. 

West Coast Baptist was led by Ian Russell, who scored a game-high 17 points for the visiting Eagles. 

CMS Men's basketball improves to 3-2 on the season and opens SCIAC play on Dec. 6 against Sixth Street Rival Pomona-Pitzer at 7 p.m. inside Roberts Pavilion.
