Stags take down Leopards 73-61
CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team won 73-61 against the University of La Verne, Saturday, Feb. 15 at Ducey Gym. The win comes on a night when the Stags celebrated their seniors Remy Pinson and Eric Van Wart. CMS now carries conference record of 12-1 and 17-5 overall.
CMS came out of the gate with a nice 34 point first half, with seven different players reaching the score column. The Stags held a seven point margin at the break leading 34-27 playing good defense and shooting just under 45 percent from the field.
The Leopards had a nice surge early in the second half behind Ronn See and his team high 12 points. Things started to turn in favor of the Stags midway through the second half when Tyler Gaffaney had huge drive through the lane for an and one that gave CMS a well needed boost and the team didn't look back from there.
Gaffaney led all scorers with 20 points going 7-for-9 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Pinson added 12 points while Shelby Lane pitched in with a solid 10 points and nine rebounds for the Stags. CMS shot over 53 percent for the game and were able to hold La Verne to just fewer than 40 percent. Every Stag that entered the game found their way onto the score sheet.
The Stags will host the University of Redlands on Wednesday, Feb. 19 in their home regular season finale. The game is set to tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
