George Kruger Earns SCIAC Special Teams Player of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - George Kruger of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team earned the SCIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for games through Saturday, Nov. 11, the conference office announced today.

Kruger captured the honor after a big play in the first quarter of the season finale at Redlands, when he blocked a punt just in front of the Redlands goal line that resulted in a CMS touchdown, giving the Stags an early 7-0 lead. CMS then earned a stop and a score to quickly build a 14-0 lead before going on to a 21-6 victory that tied the program record for wins in a season with eight.

In addition to his blocked punt, Kruger also added two special teams tackles on the day, one on a kickoff and one on a punt.

Kruger becomes the fourth different Stag to earn SCIAC Special Teams Player of the Week, joining Rich Brutto, Kirby Baynes and Quintin Craig. Justin Edwards and Walter Kuhlenkamp also earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Thanio Bright and Jacob O'Connell captured it on defense.
