Walter Kuhlenkamp Earns SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Quarterback Walter Kuhlenkamp of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team earned the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week for games through Saturday, Sept. 23, the conference office announced today.

Kuhlenkamp led CMS to a 49-28 win over Cal Lutheran in its conference opener, accounting for a career-best 319 yards of total offense. He had 229 yards passing, just 10 shy of his career high set last season, and added 90 yards on the ground, just five shy of his career high set last week.

In addition to the yardage, Kuhlenkamp also accounted for three touchdowns, scoring two on the ground on runs of five yards and 13 yards, and adding a 72-yard touchdown pass. His 13-yard run and 72-yard pass came just four minutes apart in the third quarter, helping CMS stretch a 21-14 lead into a 35-21 advantage.

He is the third Stag to win a weekly honor in the first three weeks, after Thanio Bright was the Defensive Player of the Week following two interceptions in a win at Chicago, and Rich Brutto was the Special Teams Player of the Week after his game-winning field goal against George Fox.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Pomona-Pitzer for a 1 p.m. contest.
