Redlands Comes Back to Take Series Opener from CMS Baseball

REDLANDS, Calif. - Adam Dapkiewicz had a home run and a double, and Bryce Didrickson added an inside-the-park home run, but the Redlands baseball team scored four times in the bottom of the eighth to come from behind and take an 8-6 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the first game of a three-game series on Friday.

With the win, Redlands improves to 17-14 on the season and moves to 9-10 in the SCIAC, while CMS drops to 18-10 overall and 6-7 in league play. 

Dapkiewicz got the scoring started in the top of the second with a solo home run, and Blaise Heher added an RBI double to score Didrickson and make it a 2-0 game. 

In the top of the fourth, Didrickson hit a solo home run, of the inside-the-park variety to stretch the lead to 3-0. After the Bulldogs got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, CMS scored twice in the fifth on RBI singles from Rider Gordon and Didrickson, and added a run in the sixth on an RBI single from Dillon Martin

Redlands chipped away, though, and got back to within 6-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth,. when they took advantage of three hit-by-pitches to score four runs, the final two coming on a two-run single from Luke DeVries. 

Dapkiewicz doubled in the top of the ninth to bring the tying run to the plate, but Patrick Perez was able to get out of the inning to get the save. 

Every Stag had at least one hit in the game, including 2-for-4 efforts from Gordon, Didrickson and Heher, and 2-for-5 performances from Martin and Dapkiewicz. 

The two teams will complete their three-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow at 11 a.m., which will be held at Azusa Pacific.
