Andrew Mazzone Wins SCIAC Hitter of the Week Award for CMS Baseball
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Andrew Mazzone of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team earned the SCIAC Hitter of the Week Award for games through Sunday, March 17, the conference office announced today.
Mazzone helped CMS to a 4-1 record on the week, including a 2-1 series win over Cal Lutheran. He hit 9-for-17 (.529) with a homer, two doubles and six RBI, while also drawing five walks.
In the Cal Lutheran series, he had a key two-run double that proved to the margin of victory in a 5-3 win over the Kingsmen in the opener on Friday. He then hit 3-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in the series finale, a 6-3 Stag win in the rubber game. Earlier in the week, Mazzone was 4-for-6 in games against Crown and Macalaster at the Tucson Invitational on Monday, hitting a home run in the Macalaster win, and hitting 2-for-3 with three RBI against Crown.
Mazzone was honored earlier this season on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, when he had four home runs and 12 RBI in a four-game sweep of Southwestern (Texas).
CMS will be back in action on Friday when it travels to Chapman for the first game of a three-game SCIAC series before meeting them in Claremont on Saturday for a doubleheader, which will be held at Pomona-Pitzer.
