Sanders Ties CMS Record with 13th Home Run as Stags Roll Past Caltech 18-2

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Julian Sanders was 3-for-3 with three RBI, including his 13th home run of the season which tied a program record, as the CMS baseball team earned an 18-2 win over Caltech on Friday afternoon at Pomona-Pitzer Baseball Field.

With the win, CMS moves to 25-7 on the season and 15-4 in the SCIAC, staying in the hunt for the league's regular season title. Caltech slips to 7-25 overall and 3-16 in league play.

Sanders hit a two-run homer in the third inning to make the score 10-1 and give him 13 round-trippers on the season. That ties the Stags all-time record, which was set by CMS Hall of Famer Tyler Laughery in 1997.

Paul Roche was 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Nick Wilson was 2-for-2 with three RBI for CMS, while Jack Potter stole four bases on a day in which he went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Jarrett Korson went four innings to get the win, while Bryant Smaaladen threw three innings of hitless relief, striking out five, to get the save.

CMS jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning, with Potter, Roche and Wilson stringing together RBI singles, Mitchell Mashiko drawing a bases-loaded walk and William DeForest adding a sacrifice fly. Roche had an RBI double to key a three-run second inning and Sanders' homer and Wilson's RBI triple keyed a three-run third.

The Stags added five more runs in the sixth, on a bases-clearing triple from Elijah Rejto, which was followed by RBI singles from Trevor Shepherd and Joey Wilson

The two teams will complete their three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Caltech, beginning at 11 a.m.
