Julian Sanders Earns Second SCIAC Hitter of the Week Honor for CMS Baseball
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Julian Sanders of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team was named the SCIAC Hitter of the Week for games through Sunday, March 5, the conference office announced this afternoon.
Sanders continued his torrid start to his season with four homers and 11 RBI in four games. He was 8-12 at the plate with three homers and a double in a three-game series sweep of Pomona-Pitzer, setting the tone in the series opener with a two-run shot in the first off of Sagehen No. 1 starter Jake Hilton, and then sealing it with another two-run shot in the eighth to make it 11-6. His OPS for the week was over 2.000, and he pushed his slugging percentage for the season over 1.000.
It marks the second time this year that Sanders has been honored by the SCIAC, after also earning it following a 9-14 trip to Texas, in which he had eight straight hits. He and Jarrett Korson, who has won the Pitcher of the Week honor twice, have combined for four SCIAC honors already this season for the Stags, who are now 11-4 on the year.
CMS will be back in action when it travels to the Tucson Invitational this weekend for games with Allegheny, Gustavus Adolphus and Macalaster.
