Chapman Comes From Behind to Edge CMS Baseball 7-6

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Nick Wilson and Cade Kritsch each had two RBI to help the CMS baseball team jump out to a 6-0 lead through five innnings but it wasn't enough as Chapman was able come from behind to defeat the Stags 7-6 on Saturday at Arce Field.

With the loss, CMS dropped to 7-4 overall on the year and 0-2 in SCIAC play, while Chapman improved to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the SCIAC with the victory.

Wilson was 3-for-4 with one run scored to go along with his pair of RBI and Tyler Shaw was a team-best 4-for-5 with two runs scored

Stags starting pitcher Jarrett Korson pitched a shutout through five innings and finished with three strikeouts before allowing two runs in the sixth. CMS scored three runs in the first, one in the second and two in the fifth to earn a 6-0 lead.

Wilson got things going for the Stags after singling to shortstop in the bottom of the first, advancing Julian Sanders to second, Castillo to third and bringing Shaw home for a 1-0 lead. A Potter walk allowed Castillo to score with the bases loaded, also moving up Wilson to second and Sanders to third. Kritsch then grounded out to third, bringing Sanders in to home plate for a three-run lead.

Shaw scored off a wild pitch in the bottom of the second to make the score 4-0. Wilson singled to first base in the bottom of fifth, bringing home Marco Castillo, and Kritsch then singled to left field, enabling Wilson to score as the Stags took a 6-0 advantage.

The Panthers, however, scored four runs in the sixth that included back-to-back home runs, two in the eighth and one go ahead run in the ninth to put the game away with the Stags unable record the tying run.

Due to heavy rain conditions following the first game of what was scheduled to be a doubleheader, game 2 was postponed and is rescheduled for tomorrow at 12 p.m. on Sunday.

Following playing the Panthers for a third time in the three days, CMS will then prepare to travel to the Tuscon Invitational as the Stags will face Aurora at 8 a.m. and Hamline at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday before facing Buena Vista on Sunday at 10 a.m.
