CMS Baseball Drops Close SCIAC Opener Against Chapman, 3-1

ORANGE, Calif. - Stags starting pitcher Ryan Warm pitched eight innings, allowing only one run through seven, but CMS baseball was ultimately unable to outduel the Chapman Panthers, falling 3-1 on Friday at W.O. Hart Park in the SCIAC opener for both teams.

With the loss, CMS slips to 7-3 overall on the year and 0-1 in SCIAC play, while Chapman improved to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the SCIAC with the victory. Warm, who started off winning his three games of the season, fell to 3-1 on the year.

Chapman tallied a run in the bottom of the first inning but CMS was able to respond two innings later. Julian Sanders singled to left field in the top of the third, tying the game at 1-1 as he brought Marco Castillo to home plate. Castillo recorded a hit and stole a base prior to Sanders single, while William DeForest also added a hit on the day.

The Panthers, though, were able to take the win in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring two runs to take a 3-1 lead.

CMS will be back in action tomorrow hosting a doubleheader against Chapman with the first pitch scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at Arce Field. The Stags will try to bounce back to win a series after dropping the first game for the third time this season, after previously winning 2-1 series over George Fox and Emory.
