CMS Baseball Cruises On, Takes 12-5 Win over Centenary

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Nick Wilson recorded two early home runs in back-to-back innings to help the CMS baseball team jump out to an 8-0 advantage through the first three innings, enabling the Stags to earn a 12-5 victory over the Centenary Gents on Saturday at Arce Field.

With the win, CMS improves to 5-2 on the season while currently riding a three-game winning streak. Centenary (La.) slides to 6-5 overall on the year with the loss.

Stags starting pitcher Ryan Warm also improved to 3-0 on the year and recorded a phenomenal triple play in the fifth to hault momentum away from the Gents, snagging a line drive, and throwing to Tyler Shaw at second, who threw to first to complete it.  

The Stags had six players record two hits or more and outhit the Gents 16-7 for the game during its offensive outburst. Wilson homered in the second and third innings to cap an eight run advantage for CMS. Julian Sanders was 4-for-5 while adding three RBI, Marco Castillo was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, and had two RBI. Tyler Shaw, Jack Potter, Aidan Booth all joined Wilson with having two hits on the day during a well-rounded outing. 

The Gents scored four in the fifth and one in the seventh to close to within 8-5, but the Stags went on to answer right back with multiple run-scoring innings of their own. Potter doubled to right field in the bottom of the seventh, followed by Booth singling to center, allowing Potter to score. Marco Castillo then singled tp shortstop, bringing Booth in to home plate to extend the CMS lead to 10-5. 

Brandon Rho was walked and stole second while Castillo stole third to put two runners in scoring position. Sanders added the finisher by singling to right center, allowing Rho and Castillo to score and making the final margin 12-5. 

CMS will be back in action in tomorrow when they host Bridgewater (Va.) at 12 p.m. before facing Centenary once more on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
