Big ninth inning gives Ithaca sweep of Stags

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team lost to Ithaca College 9-5 on Tuesday afternoon after a big ninth inning comeback for the Bombers. The Stags led or the game was tied through eight innings before Ithaca put together five runs on five hits in the ninth.

CMS scored its five runs in four different innings. The first CMS run came in the bottom of the first inning after Ithaca went four-up, three-down in the top of the frame. Senior Jack Witte (CMC) led off with a single to shortstop, stole second base and then scored off senior MacKenzie Menthen's (CMC) single up the middle. Similar to Monday's game, freshman Chase Eller (CMC) had two RBIs. Sophomore second baseman Alex Clemens (CMC) also added two RBIs, doubling in the sixth to give the Stags the 4-1 lead.

After Saturday's appearance in the ninth inning against Rutgers-Newark, freshman Mitchell Allan (CMC) got his first career start and went five complete innings striking out three. The Bombers only got two of their eventual 11 hits off Allan and scored once.

Two triples by Ithaca and two Stags errors did in CMS in the ninth to drop the Stags to 4-14 on the season.

CMS (4-14, 2-7 SCIAC) returns to conference play on Friday to begin the series with Chapman (7-9, 3-3 SCIAC). The Stags host the Panthers Friday at 2:30 p.m. and then travel to Orange for the double header at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
