Hits galore in loss to MIT

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In a Wednesday afternoon game that saw 28 total hits, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team came up short 9-6 against the MIT Engineers. Nolan Anderson led the way for the Stags going 4-for-5 at the plate.

The game remained scoreless for two innings before MIT's Garrett Greenwood doubled to right center and then was driven in by John Drago.

CMS went ahead in the bottom of the frame on three hits from Michael Gose, Alex Clemens and a big RBI double by MacKenzie Menthen. The Stags held their 2-1 lead for a complete inning before MIT put up a big four-run inning in the fifth.

In the bottom of fifth, Anderson came up again with runners in scoring position and came through for the Stags, plating Gose. Gose was 3-for-5 on the day including a triple in the bottom of the ninth.

Another big inning for the Engineers gave MIT the 9-3 advantage in the seventh but CMS rallied back, doubling its runs in the final two innings. Trey Smith and Evan Opperman recorded the RBIs in the eighth. Opperman also had a big day at the plate with three hits.

In the ninth, Gose scored after his leadoff triple but then Greenwood came in from center field to pitch and secured the win and the save for MIT.

Greenwood was 4-for-4 on the night with two runs scored.

Next up for the Stags (2-24, 0-15) is Caltech (2-18, 0-12) with a single game hosted by the Stags on Friday, Mar. 27 at 3 p.m. and then a double header in Pasadena the following day.
