Stags Comeback Falls Short

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team could not complete the comeback bid Sunday against the Pacific University Boxers falling 5-3 at Arce Field.

After giving up an early lead, the Stags were able to knot it up in the third when William Knowles singled to left, took second on a passed ball, and scored on a Jack Witte single. Knowles would finish the day going 2-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases.

CMS would give up three runs to the Boxers before scoring again in both the sixth and seventh innings.  Brett Watanabe was hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth inning and would eventually score on a Dustin Green single. In the seventh Scott Witte would drive in Knowles with a double to end the scoring for the Stags.

Knowles, Sam Katz, and J. Witte would end the day with two hits apiece while John Rizzo pitched 5 1/3 innings, striking out five in the loss.

The Stags will take the field April 2nd as they host Montana at Arce Field.
