Early Lead For CMS Doesn’t Hold Against Chapman

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team was unable to hold onto an early lead Friday against the Chapman Panthers, dropping the first game of the series 5-2 at Arce Field.

Senior IF Dustin Green singled home Brett Watanabe, who was hit by a pitch, in the second inning to put the Stags on top 1-0. However, Chapman would answer with three runs in the top of the third and two more in the sixth to take the lead for good.

CMS would get one more in the bottom of the sixth when, with two outs, Jack Witte doubled to right field and then scored on Green's misjudged fly ball . The Stags finished with nine hits on the day, four of which came from the bat of senior OF William Knowles.

On the mound Andor Kesselman kept the Stags in the game, working eight innings and striking out three while Luke Mayer worked a scoreless ninth.

The Stags travel to Orange Saturday to take on the Chapman Panthers in a double header at W.O. Hart Park.
