Stags Fall To Cougars In Opener

CMS (0-1) fell behind early to Azusa Pacific University (3-0) in their season opener at Arce Field on Tuesday.  They couldn't pull back into this one and fell to the Cougars 5-0.

Leading 1-0 in the 2nd inning, Azusa used two bunt singles and two two-out hits to squeeze four runs off CMS starter Alex Sunderland. The Stags never recovered from the 5-0 deficit, but the pitching settled down as Sunderland, David Ulrich, and Chad Hadzinsky combined to three-hit APU over the final seven shutout innings. Catcher Anthony Bouvier recorded the only hit for the Stags with a single to center in the sixth inning. Only four runners reached base for CMS (one hit, two walks, one reached on error), who struggled all afternoon to make solid contact against the Cougar staff.

CMS plays its road opener vs. The Master's College next Tuesday at 2:30 pm.
