Eduardo De Anda - Men's Soccer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore goalie Eduardo De Anda remained undefeated in his seven collegiate starts, earning a 110-minute shutout in a big overtime tie at Redlands which kept the CMS men's soccer team in a tie for first (with the tiebreaker) in the SCIAC standings.

De Anda had four saves, including two big ones in the second half, to pick up his third solo shutout of the year, lowering his goals against average to 0.41 and improving his save percentage to .893. De Anda waited his turn as he didn't see action as a first-year goalie last season, but has earned playing time this year in a two-goalie rotation for CMS, and he has responded to keep the CMS defense among the best in the SCIAC with an 0.63 goals against average.

Against Redlands, De Anda had an uneventful first half, facing just one off-target Redlands shot, but he was called into a key spot early in the second half, coming off his line to stop a Bulldog breakaway. With just two minutes left in regulation, De Anda had a big diving save on a bending shot from Redlands from 15 yards out to send the game into overtime.

The tie was key to the Stags' regular season title hopes, as CMS remained one game ahead of Redlands in the standings, and stayed in a tie for first with Whittier at 7-1-2 in league play. The Stags head to Whittier on Wednesday, and a win or a tie would allow CMS (which defeated Whittier 1-0 in the first meeting) to clinch the top seed and the right to host the SCIAC Tournament for the second year in a row if it concludes the regular season with a win at home on Saturday against Caltech.
