Teeana Cotangco - Women's Basketball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior guard Teeana Cotangco was the top scorer on a CMS women's basketball team that had a dominant performance at the David Wells Classic this weekend, rolling to a pair of 30-point wins over the University of Dallas and The College of New Jersey.

Cotangco shot 71 percent from the floor over the two games, leading the Athenas with 11 points on 4-6 shooting in a 58-24 win over Dallas, and then following that up with 15 points on 6-8 shooting (3-5 from three) in an 87-52 win over TCNJ. Her efforts helped CMS kick-start its offense, which set a new season-high with the 58 points in the Dallas win on Friday, and then shattered that high-water mark with 87 on Saturday, while shooting almost 50 percent from the floor (37-75, 49.3 percent).

In addition, the Athenas continued with their trademark stifling defense, holding Dallas to just 5-40 from the floor (12.5 percent) and then keeping TCNJ below 30 percent (17-57, 29.8 percent).

CMS, which improved to 4-1 on the year with the two wins, will next be in action when it opens SCIAC play with a 5 p.m. home game against Chapman on Saturday. CMS and Chapman tied for the regular season SCIAC title last year at 15-1, and met in the SCIAC Tournament championship game, which went to double overtime before the Panthers prevailed.
