Augusta Lewis - Women's Swimming and Diving

CLAREMONT, Calif. - On a day when every point was needed, freshman Augusta Lewis provided three crucial first-place finishes to help the CMS women's swimming and diving team to a 149-141 win over Occidental on Saturday at Axelrood Pool in a tri-meet with Caltech.

Lewis swept the two breaststroke events to help keep the Athenas within striking distance, taking the 100 in 1:07.98 (a win over .7 over Occidental's Annika Moen) and then earning a big win in the 200 in 2:23.85, almost a three-second margin over Laura Chun of Oxy.

After the second intermission, the Athenas, who were missing several key swimmers with injuries, were trailing with only two events left, the 200 IM and the 400 freestyle relay. With CMS needing the points, Lewis came through with her third first-place finish of the day, touching the wall in 2:09.39 to finish 1-2 with teammate Natalie Larsen, who was second in 2:11.72. That 1-2 finish brought the Athenas back within a single point in the team score, and left it up to the final relay, which CMS won convincingly to take the comeback win.

The win (as well as the victory over Caltech) improved CMS to 3-0 in SCIAC duals in the early part of the 2018-19 season. Lewis and the Athenas will be back in action after the Thanksgiving break, when they take on Pomona-Pitzer in a two-day meet, with the first half taking place on Friday, November 30 at 3 p.m. and the conclusion on Saturday, December 1 at 11 a.m.
