Abigale Johnson - Women's Cross Country

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Abigale Johnson was the top individual finisher for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country team at the 2018 SCIAC Championships, helping the Athenas win the league title for the ninth year in a row.

Johnson finished with a time of 23:29.2, earning All-SCIAC honors by placing among the top of the individual leaders. She led a pack of Athenas who earned the title with their depth, placing eight of the top 16 runners in the field. Seniors Malea Martin and Natalie Marsh finished in fifth and sixth place right behind Johnson, while Dulcie Jones (eighth) and Georgia Scherer (11th) also scored for CMS.

A year ago as a freshman, Johnson was the fourth-fastest Athena at the SCIAC Championships (coming in eighth place overall), and made a big jump this year to become the first CMS runner to cross the line. As a team, the Athenas finished with 34 points, winning by 22 points over Pomona-Pitzer (56), which entered the SCIAC Championship ranked No. 1 in the West Region by the USTFCCCA, one spot ahead of CMS.

Johnson and the Athenas will next be in action on November 10, when they compete at the NCAA West Regionals in Walla Walla, Washington, hosted by Whitman.
