Nicole Greenberg - Women's Lacrosse

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Former walk-on Nicole Greenberg was given the starting assignment in goal for the CMS women's lacrosse team on her Senior Day on Saturday, just the fourth start of her career, and had 10 saves while allowing only two goals in a big win over second-place Pomona-Pitzer to close out the regular season for the Athenas.

Seven of Greenberg's 10 saves came off of Pomona-Pitzer free position shots, as she never allowed the Sagehens to get anything going offensively in a 15-4 CMS win. She came out with 20 minutes to go to a warm reception from her teammates after her stellar performance, and then was put back in with two minutes left to finish out her last regular season home game at Zinda Field, playing a total of 41 minutes and allowing just the two goals. To put her .833 save percentage in persepective, the current Division III national leader (Molly Dionne of Hamline) has a save percentage of an even .600, and the SCIAC leader (Annie Price of Pomona-Pitzer) is at an even .500.

The win enabled CMS to finish the regular season 10-0 in SCIAC for the third year in a row and extended its winning streak against SCIAC opponents to 34 games, dating back to the SCIAC semifinals in 2016 (Greenberg's freshman year). Greenberg started two games as a freshman, going 2-0, and made her third career start early this year in February against Occidental, getting the win in that one as well.

CMS will be back in action when it hosts the SCIAC semifinals on Wednesday, May 1 against Chapman (7 p.m.). With a win in that contest, the Athenas would host the SCIAC Championship game on Saturday, May 4 at 1 p.m.
