CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior outfielder Rachel Perley came through repeatedly in the clutch with both her bat and her glove to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team keep its strong start to the 2019 season going with three wins over teams ranked in the top 10 in the nation.

Perley made the defensive play of the year (so far) for the Athenas with a potential game-saving catch in the seventh inning of a 3-2 win over No. 3 Ithaca, tracking a ball down in the right-center field gap at full extension to rob the Bombers of a leadoff double. She then a huge game-winning RBI single with two outs in extra innings of a win at Occidental, which came right after the Tigers threw a potential go-ahead runner out at the plate for the second out, to help keep the Athenas undefeated in league play (10-0 in SCIAC) when momentum was on Occidental's side.

Perley capped off her week on Monday with a pair of two-run doubles, keying two six-run innings, as CMS rallied from a 6-1 deficit to defeat No. 10 Williams 15-8 to compete a doubleheader sweep. Her first two-run double was another clutch two-out hit, which gave CMS its first lead of the game at 7-6.

Perley and the Athenas will keep their busy week going with home doubleheaders against Denison on Tuesday, Cortland on Thursday and Whittier on Saturday.
