Bio

Over the course of his career as a Stag, Hayes played for three of CMS’ all-time great coaches in John Zinda (football), Ted Ducey (basketball), and Bill Arce (baseball). On the football field, Hayes starred in the defensive backfield where he was a first team All-SCIAC selection in 1970. Twice he was selected to the All-SCIAC second team (1967, 1969). The 1970 team that he captained won the program’s first SCIAC championship, and ranked 11th in NAIA Division II. Hayes also punted for four seasons, and was the team’s second leading rusher in 1967. In 1971, Hayes was the co-recipient of the Bill Dickinson Award with his brother Greg.
