Bio

As head coach, he led the men's water polo (1979-1997) and swim teams (1979-2000). In water polo, his SCIAC record was 178-12 with 15 SCIAC Championships and the Stags were ranked among the top-20 (all divisions) 13 times. In swimming, Sutton had a 101-4 SCIAC dual meet record and he coached 18 NCAA D-III national champions, who set national records in 17 events. The swim team won 18 SCIAC Championships under Sutton and placed 15 times in the top-10 nationally. His coaching career concluded when he became the Director of Athletics and Physical Education. He served 16 seasons as AD. CMS won over 100 SCIAC titles, 17 tournament titles and 13 overall SCIAC All-Sports trophies under Sutton. CMS earned six, top-25 finishes in the NCAA D-III Directors' Cup standings, including a program-best tie for 10th place finish in 2015-16 and CMS won two NCAA D-III team national titles (men's tennis 2015 and men's golf 2016) on Sutton's watch.
