Bio

Burton has been a consistent voice for gender and program equity since joining the athletic department as head volleyball and women's basketball coach in 1979. She is best known for her 32 seasons as head coach of the Athena basketball program. During those years, she had an overall record of 507-298 and was the 15th coach in Division III history to win 500 games. In SCIAC play, her teams won six SCIAC titles and finished second 13 times. She stood as the winningest coach in SCIAC basketball history when she stopped coaching basketball in 2011. Burton has served as head women's golf coach since the program's start in 2012 and she led the team to the inaugural SCIAC Championship in 2012 and the program's first NCAA Division III National Championship in 2018. Burton has also served as the athletic department's Senior Women's Administrator and an Associate Athletic Director. She served two years as head volleyball coach and also was co-head coach of women's tennis for one year early on in her career.
