McNaughton served as the starting goalie for three years on a top-20, nationally ranked water polo team that went 30-0 and won the SCIAC championship in 1984, 1985, and 1986, and the WWPA Championship in 1984 and 1986. He was known as a great athlete and leader in the pool. WWPA honors: first-team All-WWPA (1984, 1985), second-team All-WWPA (1986). SCIAC HONORS: first-team All-SCIAC (1985, 1986) and second-team All-SCIAC (1984). He was the team captain in 1985 and lettered for three seasons.
