Bio

Pete Welsh began school in the fall of 1947 as a member of one of the first classes of Claremont Men's College. A South Pasadena High School graduate, he spent four years in the Army during World War II before enrolling at CMC. While competing for Pomona-Claremont teams, he was a four-sport letter winner. He competed for four years in track & field and basketball and one year each in tennis and football. Competing at a time prior to Pomona-Claremont attending National Championships, he was a dominant force in track and was the first SCIAC track & field champion from CMC (he won the 100 yards in 1948). Upon graduation in 1950, Welsh held four individual school records: 100 yards (9.9), 220 yards (21.8), high jump (5-8), long jump (23-2.5). The long jump record stood for 57 years from 1949-2006. He is part of the foundation of CMS track & field and was the inaugural inductee into the CMS Hall of Fame in 1989.
