CMC75 Moments: 2012 Women's Golf wins Title in Inaugural SCIAC Season

2012 Women's Golf: Athenas Take First SCIAC Title

The newest sport at CMS didn't take long to start adding to the athletic department's trophy case. In the inaugural season of SCIAC women's golf, the Athenas won the five-team league handily, taking all four of the regular season tournaments and then adding a close win at the SCIAC Championships, edging Redlands in a tight battle by just three strokes (over three rounds).

It was a team effort for the Athenas all year, as Maya Reddy won two of the regular season tournaments, Shaina Raskin won two, and then Marissa Suehiro was the top CMS finisher (second) at the league championships, followed by Reddy and Lauren Buchanan tied for sixth, Raskin in eighth, Elizabeth Diebel in ninth and Tiffany Su in 11th.

After winning the title, CMS captured an invitation to the NCAA Division III Championships and earned a solid 14th place finish, with Suehiro (34th), Su (55th) and Reddy (58th) compiling strong showings. Reddy was a second-team All-American and was named the SCIAC Athlete of the Year, and was joined on the All-West Region team by Su. Buchanan, Suehiro and Raskin added first-team All-SCIAC honors, and Raskin was chosen the SCIAC Freshman of the Year.
