Bio

Emily Ramey-Root enters her second season a coach within the cross country program in 2019, although she previously had extensive experience within the CMS program coaching the sprints, high jump and javelin for track & field. While at CMS, Coach Ramey has coached eight SCIAC Champions, 21 All-SCIAC members, two school record holders, seven NCAA qualifiers and one All-American.

While coaching for CMS, Ramey-Root pursued her master's degree in history from Claremont Graduate University, which she completed in May 2017. Previous to her academic career at CGU, Ramey-Root graduated from Concordia University (Irvine), in May 2013, with a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science. While a student-athlete at Concordia, Ramey-Root’s primary event was the heptathlon, holding the school record with 4244 points, while also contibuting to relays. She competed in two Indoor Nationals as the 400 leg for the distance medley relay (2011, 2013) and two Outdoor Nationals in the heptathlon (2012 & 2013). 

Prior to transferring to Concordia Irvine, Ramey attended Concordia University in Chicago where she received the Most Valuable Freshman award for the Indoor and Outdoor Conference meet, along with being the Indoor Women’s Team Conference Champions and Outdoor Conference Championships runners-up. She also holds the school record in the throwers relay and pentathlon.
