CMS Cross Country has mixed results at SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet

LA MIRADA, Calif. - The SCIAC Dual Meets were held over the rolling hills of La Mirada Regional Park. The eighth-ranked nationally Athenas led the women's competition during the 9am start with a depth not seen very often in conference competition. Seven of the first 12 finishers were from CMS. Senior Bridget Blum led the Athenas with a third place overall finish, out of the 102 athletes with a 6K time of 21:52. Following Blum in succession were junior Jen Lehr in fourth, sophomore's Roselyn Cantu (fifth) and Laura Broderick (sixth). The fifth runner for the CMS team was junior Caroline Willian in eighth place with a time of 22:38. The Athenas won all eight of their dual meets resulting in an 8-0 mark and a first place standing as they head into the SCIAC Championships in two weeks.

The men racing second didn't fare as well , tying Pomona Pitzer at 28 and losing on the NCAA tiebreaker, which pits the No. 1 man on each team against each other for a point for the highest placing, followed by the No. 2's, 3's, 4's and 5's, CMS losing 3-2. Although the top-3 Stags ran well, led by a third place finish by senior Zorg Loustalet in 25:54, Evan Molineux (fourth), and fellow senior Jack Wilson's fifth place finish, unfortunately for the Stags, five Pomona-Pitzer runners finished between Wilson and the Stags' fifth runner, Hunter Olsen. Interestingly enough, if the meet was scored as an invitational, the Stags would have come out on top by a single point. Both teams head off for the fall break, returning to campus on Wednesday as they continue the march toward the NCAA Championships.
